The cinema was born in 1955 as HELO in the ruins of an apartment building. Since it is located in the border area between the American and Russian sectors, many of its first guests come from the nearby eastern part of the city. After all, one can see "western movies" at the HELO . The pragmatic naming (its founders HErkenrath and LOhde acted as "godfathers") is typical of the time.In 1986, it joins the family of the Yorck Cinema Group and receives its current name Babylon. Always an individualist, it becomes legendary for its long movie nights.Today, the Babylon is an established OV/OmU cinema, where, in addition to its
core program, many special events are also shown. It is the venue for the porn film festival and is also home to the surf film night. Once you sit under the spiral starlight of the large auditorium, you know you've captured a real piece of cinematic heaven.
