The film tells the story of the suppression of the Bolshevik uprising at the Arsenal factory in Kyiv by the Central Council troops. In the Soviet mythology, the uprising at the Arsenal is nothing less than the key episode in the scenario of Bolshevik martyrdom in Ukraine. New soundtrack to this silent film created British producer and multi-instrumentalist Guy Bartell.
Arsenal is considered an outstanding expressionist film in Ukrainian cinema. In Soviet mythology, the 1918 Kyiv Arsenal factory uprising is the key event of Bolshevik martyrdom in Ukraine. But the uprising was less one of Kyiv citizens against the Central Council and more a protest by Russian workers, instigated by the Bolsheviks competing for power in Ukraine.
