A young woman named Mona Lisa with psychokinetic powers escapes from an asylum in Louisiana and makes her way to New Orleans, where she gets caught up in the city's underworld of misfits and villains.
Long forgotten in a Louisiana swampland psychiatric ward, young Mona Lisa awakens one blood moon night from years of lethargy. Thanks to her mysterious ability to control the will of other people, she escapes the asylum and finds herself on the streets of New Orleans. There she meets the stripper Bonnie, who recognises Mona Lisa's gift and takes her in. While Bonnie exploits the shy woman's powers for joint robberies, a tender friendship develops between Mona Lisa and Bonnie's ten-year-old son Charlie. But the thefts do not go unnoticed and soon Mona Lisa is targeted by the local police.
