Richie Bravo, once upon a time a successful pop star, chases after his faded fame in wintry Rimini. Trapped between permanent intoxication and concerts for busloads of tourists, his world starts to collapse when his adult daughter breaks into his life.
Amore mio is the name of his song - a cry for attention and love - nothing could be truer for aging Austrian pop star Richie Bravo (Michael Thomas), who spends the dreary winter months in Rimini. His character vacillates between musical semi-fame, drunkard, gambling-addicted aging Casanova and failed father figure. He finances his dissolute lifestyle with love services for female fans and performances for bus tourists. His life changes abruptly when his daughter shows up and demands a large sum of money from him, since he has never paid child support and is not in a position to pay it. At the same time, he has to take care of his father, who suffers from dementia and lives in a nursing home and cannot let go of his past as a Nazi. The drama Rimini by Ulrich Seidl describes the decaying charm of the pensioner's paradise Rimini and the lost splendor of an aging generation. And yet, behind all the decay of this fictional world, there is perhaps also a bit of hope, because the magnificent villa of Richie Bravo becomes a refuge for youth. The king has (finally!) abdicated.
