Spatzenkino is cinema for cinema beginners. The first visit to the cinema should be a positive experience for the young viewers, bring joy and thus lay the foundation for a long, intensive relationship with the cinema as a cultural venue. For this reason, Spatzenkino has specifically targeted 4 to 7-year-olds.
The Spatzenkino screenings take place on weekdays in the morning and last around 45 minutes. Each film program has a central theme and consists of around 2-3 short films. Most of them are cartoons or puppet animations. However, documentaries and live-action films are also used. The children find their themes in the short films, e.g. growing up, becoming independent, experiencing things alone and with others. The number of characters is manageable, characters are easy to assess, the narrative pattern is easy to understand, the suspense is not overstretched and there is definitely a happy ending. Since the Spatzenkino mostly shows short films, the children don't have to wait long for them.
