FARAH combines documentary footage with TikTok-style selfie videos and follows the protagonist in moments of self-dramatization, the dreaming of self-images and the heartbreak when these dreams, big or small, are shattered. The screening will be followed by a film discussion with director Ginan Seidel and Seena Rahmani (journalist, teacher and women's rights activist from Afghanistan).

About

Protagonist Farahnaz was raised as a boy according to the Afghan “Bacha Posh” tradition and confronted from an early age with a binary structured society and its gender-based role ascription. At the age of 17-20, she is now accompanied through her everyday life in Germany: Farahnaz reflects on privileges that were taken from her and that she has reclaimed; how girls' clothing became alien to her body, how she became alien to herself.
