In his tenth “observational film”, Kazuhiro Sōda captures life around the old Shinto shrine of Gokogu, located in Ushimado, a Japanese harbor town. THE CATS OF GOKOGU SHRINE provides an insightful look at the traditional community of the place and especially that of the cats who inhabit the shrine. Following the screening, director Kazuhiro Sōda will be there to answer questions in a Q&A.

About

An ample community of cats has set up home around the Shinto shrine in Ushimado. Some local residents take care of them, others are disturbed by their mess. Kazuhiro Soda observes their co-existence with kindness, precision and occasional involvement.
